As I saw Spider-Man 3 last week I’ve had Marvel and the Spider-themed heroes on the brain. I always liked the original Spider-Woman’s red and yellow costume. It’s a little hokey but it appeals to me. So, I thought that I’d explore the idea of a Spider-Woman movie. One of the things I like about Spider-Woman is her espionage roots. She’s not always been a typical superhero, she’s often been more of a Private Eye or Spy. I think it’s those aspects of her character that would make her work as a movie.

Character: Jessica Drew is the child of Jonathan and Miriam Drew, genetics researchers working for the secretive A.I.M. (Advanced Idea Mechanics). They died in what she was told was an accident and she was adopted by the Baron Wolfgang Von Strucker. After growing to adulthood Jessica joined A.I.M. and followed in her parents’ footsteps as a genetics researcher. She gained superpowers after being locked in a gas chamber with a lab rat. She has super strength, control over pheromones that allow her to attract or repel people at will, and the ability to manipulate a bio-electric field that allows her limited flight, the ability to stick to walls, and the ability to shoot electric pulses from her hands that can incapacitate or kill.

Played by: Young Jessica would be played by Jodelle Ferland, the little girl from Silent Hill. Adult Jessica would be played by Carla Gugino.

Character: The Taskmaster is HYDRA’s chief trainer of agents. Supposedly, no one knows who he is as he has never been seen out of his skull mask.

Played by: Michael Madsen, or at least his voice since the character’s face will be hidden by a mask the whole time.

Baron Wolfgang von Strucker-
: The Baron is the leader of the terrorist organization HYDRA. He ordered the deaths of Jon and Miriam Drew and then adopted their daughter with the intent of training her to be an agent of HYDRA. He and Colonel Fury have had a number of run ins but Fury has never been able to clearly connect Strucker to HYDRA or any wrong-doing.

Played by: Sean Bean, because I think he’d make a good bald evil German Baron.

Character: MODOC was an A.I.M. scientist named George Tarleton. Years before even Jon and Miriam Drew joined A.I.M. he experimented on himself in an effort to increase his intelligence. The result severely deformed his body, his head was made enormous while the rest of his body shrank. He became capable of sifting through large amounts of data rapidly and determining the best possible course of action, but he was supposedly incapable of communicating with others without a computer interfacing with his brain. He was voluntarily installed into a special facility in the A.I.M. complex that gave him access to all computer systems in the building.

Played by: A combination of CGI, animatronics and the voice of Leonard Nimoy.

Kenuichio Harad-
Character: Kenuichio is an assassin for the terrorist group, the Hand. He goes by the codename “The Silver Samurai,” because of a tendency to kill targets with a Samurai sword and a collection of traditional Samurai armor he keeps in his home.

Played by: Ken Watanabe.

Mattie Franklin-
Character: Mattie is a S.H.I.E.L.D. operative who infiltrated HYDRA in order to gather data on it’s super-soldier program.

Played by: Michelle Rodriguez.

Colonel Nick Fury-
Character: Nick Fury has been a long time S.H.I.E.L.D. operative and recently was promoted to the position of Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. He had been in charge of the operation that had Jon and Miriam Drew infiltrate HYDRA and had not been aware of their child, Jessica, and so could not “save” her from adoption by the Baron.

Played by: Samuel L. Jackson, which may mean we’ll have to make the movie R rated to exploit his singular talent for saying the word “Motherfucker.”

Jonathan and Miriam Drew were genetic researchers working for Advanced Idea Mechanics (A.I.M.), after a freak lab accident kills them both their daughter, Jessica, is orphaned. Jessica is adopted by the reclusive Baron Wolfgang von Strucker. She is raised in seclusion at his castle on Mount Wundagore. Having spent years with private tutors she has followed her parents path, studying genetics. Baron Strucker secures her a position at A.I.M. in the same lab her parents once worked in. At A.I.M. her first assignment is as a technician on the MODOC project. MODOC seems to be little more than a genetically enhanced human being who serves as a type of processor for A.I.M., sifting through large quantities of data gathered during research and helping direct future research. The technicians are only able to communicate with him via a computer terminal. In order to get out of the undesirable assignment, she volunteers to be a part of the Arachne project. The Arachne project is a super-soldier program designed to create a super-powered government agent, the ultimate spy and assassin. They have developed methods of increasing strength to super-human levels, and the ability to produce low-level bio-electric pulses, but Jessica stumbles on something new, conscious pheromone control, being able to produce an intense attraction or repulsion in those around the agent. During a test Jessica gets accidentally locked in a gas chamber with the test animal. Jessica wakes up some weeks later in the facility’s infirmary. Her adopted father is there to see her. He explains to her that the experiment changed her, she’s accidentally become the first A.I.M. super-soldier. He explains to her that he’s part of an international anti-terrorist organization known as HYDRA and that he would like her to join them, work with him against the terrorists who sabotaged her parents work and killed them. Jessica transfers to HYDRA where she is trained by a man in a skull mask known only as “The Taskmaster.” After some months, she is given a red and gold field uniform reminiscent of a spider and the codename Spider-Woman.

Jessica is moved to San Francisco where she is set up as the owner of a flower shop. A young agent named Mattie Franklin is assigned to work under Jessica at the flower shop. Jessica’s first assignment is to gather information on a Japanese Terrorist known as the Silver Samurai. Kenuichio Harad, the Silver Samurai, is an assassin for “The Hand.” Over the course of her surveillance of Kenuichio Harad she inserts herself into his social circle. The order then comes down that she is to assassinate him before he can kill a prominent Senator. She seduces Harad and in his hotel room kills him using her bio-electric pulse ability. She returns to the Flower Shop, only to catch S.H.I.E.L.D (Strategic Hazard Intervention, Espionage and Logistics Directorate) agents arresting Mattie. She tries to get away but ends up having to fight off the agents. She gets away from them and hides in a seedy motel. In her room she is confronted by Colonel Nick Fury, the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. She attempts to fight him off but he easily subdues her. He takes her to the mobile S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters where he explains to her the history of HYDRA as a Nazi offshoot that become an almost completely invisible criminal and terrorist organization. He explains to her that her parents has been S.H.I.E.L.D. sleeper agents, who had infiltrated A.I.M. to expose it as the technological arm of HYDRA. He provides her evidence of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s status as a legitimate U.N. sanctioned entity and her parents’ involvement as agents. Mattie is revealed to be an undercover S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. Jessica doesn’t believe him at first, and manages to escape S.H.I.E.L.D. Once away she contacts her adopted father, Strucker. Strucker sends “The Taskmaster” to pick her up. He attacks her, explaining that she’s been compromised and that his orders are to execute her. Jessica dispatches him and, after picking up her field uniform, heads for the European headquarters of A.I.M. She infiltrates A.I.M. and hacks into the computer system, hoping to gather information on her parents. She discovers that MODOC not only killed her parents, but also sealed her in the gas chamber and gave her her powers. Jessica fights her way through A.I.M. security, and makes it to the room MODOC is kept in. There, instead of finding a helpless mute with a giant head, she discovers MODOC sitting in a floating chair. She also discovers that he can speak and he confirms that A.I.M. is merely an arm of HYDRA, and that it was HYDRA, specifically Baron Strucker, who ordered the execution of her parents. He then attacks her. His chair is equipped with state of the art laser and plasma weapons. He also uses telepathy to confuse her during the fight. She’s able to find the power pack for his chair and disable him. She leaves him alive but destroys the apparatuses that allow him to control A.I.M. At the castle at Mount Wundagore Jessica doesn’t encounter any guards, she walks into Strucker’s study and he is waiting for her, sitting behind a desk with a glass of brandy in his hand. She attacks and he proves himself quite capable of handling her. He tells her that he’s disappointed and she manages to get him to fully admit to his part in her parents’ deaths. The fight goes on and she gets the better of him, ready to deliver a killing blow. Later, S.H.I.E.L.D. agents burst into the castle, they find the Baron bound and gagged with a note: “Courtesy of Spider-Woman.” Several weeks later, in Hyde Park in London Jessica sits on a bench watching as people pass by. Nick Fury sits down next to her. He explains that MODOC had gone missing and most of A.I.M.’s top scientists with him. He explains to her that HYDRA isn’t gone, they simply cut off one of it’s heads. Jessica seems to understand this and gets up to leave. Fury offers her a position at S.H.I.E.L.D., she declines, preferring to be a free agent. Then, she disappears into the crowd.
